The Spaceship I Saw - Part 3

So how does it feel to have a close encounter with an alien spaceship?  One word: Terrifying.

Overcoming Fear

It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me.  I overcame (most of) my fear of the dark by the time I was twelve.  I saw a bad movie with George Wendt who played Norm on Cheers, and Richard Moll who played Bull on Night Court, where the lead character is plagued by his haunted house until he reaches a breaking point and stops being afraid.  Once he stops being afraid, nothing can hurt him.

George Wendt - Norm!
Norm!
That immediately helped me stop sleeping with a nightlight.  It helped me do night hikes through the woods without a flashlight at summer camp and at home.  It helped me get through Basic Training where I had to low-crawl under barbed wire while an M-60 shot live fire with tracer rounds right over my head.  It helped me in college when, on a couple occasions, stronger guys challenged me and threatened to fight me and I stood my ground.  I grew to be somewhat fearless as an adult.

UFO Terror

The night of The Gagetown UFO Sighting, I sat alone in a one acre clearing in the woods, guarding a large cache of ammunition and explosives.  I was at least a quarter mile away from the next ammo dump, Pad 2, which was also about a quarter mile away from Pad 1.  I was personally on high alert because I did not know how deep into the woods I was but I knew that we were somewhat close to the edge of the base and that civilians might try to sneak in and steal ammo.  They could be armed.  I was armed with a fully automatic M-16 but I had no ammo (that is another story).  I kept thinking if an armed thief should pop out of the woods and see me there, holding an automatic weapon, he would likely take a shot at me under the premise that I had superior fire power and he would have to shoot first in order to survive a fire fight.  I would not say that scared me but it definitely had me concerned about the possibility of being shot.

I sat on a little bench in the corner of the clearing.  I kept trying to look through the trees but it was too dark under the canopy to see anything.  That was unnerving.  Fortunately the moon was full or nearly full so everything within the clearing was lit up like it was daytime.  But who knew what was hiding in the trees.  I repeatedly looked over my shoulders to make sure someone was not sneaking up behind me.

By 11:20 pm I was settled into my role with my butt planted firmly on the little bench.  I held my weapon at Order Arms with my finger on the trigger guard.  It was silly because I had no bullets.  But it was habit from years of hunting and it was comforting to know I was ready to aim and fire.  That was when something in my environment changed.  The hair on the back of my neck stood up.  I felt the presence of someone or something who had snuck up on me.  The forest noises stopped.  No crickets.  No tree frogs.  No weird, unidentifiable creature noises.  Just silence in the woods.  That is scary.

I felt compelled to look to my right.  The hair on my right arm stood up.  But first I wanted to check my left to make sure nothing was there, knowing that I would probably not be looking that way again for a while.  I looked over my left shoulder. It was clear.  I slowly turned my head to the right and there, over the treeline, was an enormous spaceship.  I initially thought it had just risen from beyond the trees.  After consulting with Mike, the other witness, 26 years later, I understand that it had probably been hovering closer to Pad 2 since not long after we had arrived around 11:00 and had just crept up on me around 11:20.

The ship hung there for a brief moment and then began to creep forward.  Thinking about it now I am assuming they must have been observing my site for a while and once they saw me looking their way they decided to move along.  But they did not speed away.  It was more like someone out for a stroll on the beach around sunset without a care in the world.  The ship glided at maybe one mile per hour, perhaps slower, from the far side of my pad to the rear, staying just beyond the treeline to my right the whole time.

I was scared to death.  There were not many thoughts going through my mind.  I was mainly on auto-pilot.  I discussed this with a friend of a friend who is a psychologist, a few weeks ago and he told me about an instinct animals have to freeze up when preyed upon.  That was what happened to me.  I could not move.  Of the few thoughts I had, the primary one was to not make any sudden movements which might alert the occupants of the ship to my presence.  In hindsight they had to know I was there.  But in the moment I did not want to be spotted.  So I looked only with my eyes, straining them to look as far right as they could as the ship moved towards my rear.  When my eyes could not turn right any more I slowly turned my head to the right until it reached its furthest pivot point.  Only then did I begin moving my shoulders, twisting my upper body sightly to the right.  By that point the ship was disappearing beyond my field of vision due to all the trees.

While the ship was fully exposed and directly in sight my primary concern was that if I was spotted I might be beamed up to the ship.  My only other thought besides not moving went back to my concern that if anyone came out of the woods with a weapon they might see my weapon and shoot first.  Here I was, holding an automatic rifle, staring down an enormous alien spaceship.  What if they perceived me to be a threat?  Would they zap me with a laser and disintegrate me?  I really thought that.

My heart raced and pounded.  My mind kept my breathing slow and controlled but my body wanted me to breathe faster.  I struggled to keep from taking quick deep breaths.  I felt energized.  It could have been from adrenaline.  But I believe there was a charge in the air which was produced by the ship.  That would explain why the hair on my right arm stood  up almost straight on end.  I think it was caused either from the ship's propulsion system or from some type of x-ray-like scanner which was used to study the contents of the ammunition I was guarding, as well as to see me and the other guards.

Playing this all back in my mind I have always thought that I never stood up.  Although I have memories of seeing the ship slowly glide away from me so now I think I might have walked out towards the road to make sure it was gone.  I do know that I watched it for about seven minutes in total and then had to wait three excruciating minutes before calling Mike on the field phone.

Since then, pretty much nothing scares me anymore.

That was my sighting.  There is much more to the story but this is the gist of it.

The Spaceship I Saw - Part 2

Yesterday I wrote about the lights on the spaceship I saw.  Today I want to describe the shape.

How Big is a Spaceship?

It is hard to say exactly how big mine was, anymore.  It has been twenty-six years since The Gagetown UFO Sighting.  But I know I was on guard duty in a one acre clearing and the ship was longer than the clearing.  An acre is a little over 200 feet by 200 feet.  My yard now is 2 1/3 acres.  It is shaped roughly like three 3/4 individual acres, side-by-side-by-side.  As I look out over my yard, from my desk, I can estimate that the ship must have been 250-300 feet long and maybe 100-150 feet wide.

On top of my house
Using my house as a gauge of height, and knowing how many feet of rod I need to assemble to clean my chimney and then doing some fuzzy math, I can estimate the ship must have been something like 50 feet high.

Yeah, it was huge.

You can see in the image below that the ship was taller in the front than the back.  Its tallest point was just behind the front part.  I think it was slightly boxier, more angular, not as rounded.  We will have to work on that the next time Cam comes over to touch up the image.  He is an amazing fine artist but once the image gets into PhotoShop the technology can be limiting.

You cannot see its shape from overhead.  It was somewhere between an egg shape and a rectangle with its corners cut off.  I did not see it fly directly over me so my estimates of its shape from over/underneath are based on having had close to a 270 degree view of it.  I saw most of the front as it approached, all of its right side as it floated by me, and all of its back as it cruised away.

The Marceau Ship - Draft
My memory is foggiest about the back because by that point I was so petrified with fear that I felt exposed, trying to get a better view.  All I could do initially was look as far right as I could, using only my eyes, and then turn my head as much as need be to keep the ship in sight.  I got up and watched it for a while after it left but soon had to return to the safety of my bench.  But I can still see the front right quarter panel and the right side in my mind's eye as if it were yesterday because I was able to look directly at both of these sides with both eyes for several minutes.  It was only 100, or so, yards from me.

There were no wings.  There was no tail fin.  There were no visible engines.  There were no rotors or propellers.  There were no lights other than the headlights I described yesterday.  There were no symbols, letters, numbers or other markings of any type which might identify the ship as commercial or military.

There was no sound as it approached or glided by me.  As it slowly faded from sight I thought I could hear a low static sound, like a TV makes when it is not tuned to a channel.  I suspect this may have been sub-audible for most people.  I have an usually wide range of hearing at both ends of the spectrum.  Even with my extra-sensitive hearing, the only way I was able to hear anything was because all the forest noises had stopped, i.e. crickets, tree frogs, owls, mysterious noises that send you running for shelter.  Or maybe I tuned them out.  But Mike, the other witness, noted that he also was unable to hear the forest noises for some time.

Spaceship Downwash

The other thing Mike has brought up to me several times, as we  have recently reconnected on this, is that there was no downwash from the ship.

The color of The Marceau Ship lightsFrom his vantage point, all he could see was a small bit of the bright light which he initially took to be a flare.  After the flare hung in the sky for several minutes and failed to fall into the trees he thought it must be some kind of aircraft.  But he was puzzled by the fact that there was no downwash.

When he first said that term to me I was unfamiliar with the word but I was well aware of the concept - it is when the rotors of a helicopter make the trees below it sway or rustle in the wind.  As I play back the mental tape of the scene I also saw no downwash.

Downwash examples

Although, I did feel energized and the hair on my right arm stood up almost to the point of straightening out, but not quite.

Tomorrow I will touch more on how it felt to experience this.

The Spaceship I Saw - Part 1

Over the past week my brother in-law Cameron has been working on an artist's rendition of the spaceship I saw, which I am now calling the Marceau Ship (because, why not?) from the Gagetown UFO Sighting.  He is doing a great job based on my description.  If you saw the real thing you would say, "That's the ship from the picture!"

We are still working on it, which is why the image below says "Draft" on it.  Still, so far Cam has done an incredible job of capturing the shape and dimensions of the ship.  If I did not know any better I would say he must have been there with me, although he was not even born at the time.

Marceau Ship Draft

Alien Headlights

What I really want to talk about today, though, is the lights.  Up front there were three lights or windshields in about a 120 degree arc.

I have always leaned towards them being windows because they were in the front, in the direction the ship was moving, and if I were on another planet, checking out the locals, I would want to look out the front window.  But they were so bright; Mike, the other witness, thought he was looking at a flare.  If you have the lights on in your house at night and try to look outside it is hard to see anything but then if you go out on your porch you can probably see your whole yard.  It is hard to imagine anyone could have seen anything outside the ship with lights that bright inside.  So maybe they were in fact headlights.

My sighting was on a military base and I was guarding a large cache of ammo.  I suppose if I were invading the military air space of a foreign nation, I would want to be in a vehicle that was bullet-proof.  Windows, even bullet-proof glass, would increase my vulnerability.  With the technology they had, they probably would not need windows, to fly.  They could navigate completely by computer and could see outside with cameras or similar (more advanced) equipment.  They probably have some type of infrared or night-vision but maybe things just look better for them with a bright light shining on the subject, like it does for us.

The color of the light had an orange-yellowish hue.  It reminded me of the way cities used to look at night when flying in an airplane.  Today cities are white at night.  But when I was a kid they were more orange.  That is because they were lit with different bulbs than we use today.  I used to think it was a mercury vapor bulb but last night Cam came over to finish up the drawing and I looked up the type of light I had in mind so he could color it accurately.  I believe it is called a high-pressure sodium bulb.

We spent a while fine tuning the shape, size, and spacing of the lights.  We needed to show that they were incredibly bright but still squared off.  It was as if the light had been confined to only shine a certain distance and to not spread - like a spot light but one which could be cropped on five sides of a cube.  I am imagining now that a species which has figured out how to travel here from light years away can probably manipulate light in a way which allows them to have hard edges on five sides of it.  When I explained this to Cam we figured out that he could create a layer in PhotoShop where he has a light that shines normally but then we make hard cuts to its edges.

DNA of Light

Then Cam asked me about the angle.  There was no angle.  I told him that this is a species which has figured out travelling at the speed of light (or faster).  They know all about light - like as if there is a DNA to light and they have mapped it and figured out what to do with it.

Marceau ContestSpeaking of light - a light bulb went on over my head.

I have never heard of anyone suggesting that light might have a DNA (or something like DNA).  I immediately looked it up.  I found many articles saying that DNA emits light.  But none discussing the DNA of light.

So here is another theory to add to my Marceau Contest.  Perhaps if we could identify and then map the DNA of light, we could then achieve intergalactic space travel.  Just to up the ante, the person or team that maps the DNA of light wins an entire package of Archway Molasses Cookies.

Am I on to something with this or is it just as far-fetched as the Multiverse Concept?  Post your comments below or on the David Marceau Facebook Page.

How do you spot an alien? - Part 3

Today I want to start off with a couple updates.  This blog has been up for a month now and in that time it has received over 1000 page views.  That's fantastic!  Thank you for reading and for sharing my posts with friends.

I'm thinking of skipping the radio broadcast for now and just producing the podcast myself.  If I had one major sponsor to help foot the bill then it would be a no-brainer.  But without a sponsor I will have to come up with twelve hundred bucks a month for the studio time.  That is not in the cards right now.  At first I thought, if you build it they will come
If you build it they will come
- in other words, if I start broadcasting, surely I will get some sponsors after people hear how awesome the show is.  But I cannot take that chance.  I believe it will happen in the next couple months but for now I will be producing the podcasts at home.

Wrapping up this week, I will conclude with the final installment (for now) of what seems to have been a popular series, based on page views, How do you spot an alien?

Yesterday I focused on how aliens might blend in on our planet by remaining in their natural form and hanging out with Earth creatures that look like they do, like insects, for example.  But if they wanted to blend in with humans they would have to look like us.  Before the how, I want to discuss the why.

Alien Spies

Note that I'm not saying Aliens are definitely here.  I do not know that.  I do know they have done drive-bys because I have seen one of their ships.  It was so close to me that I could have shot at it with the M-16 I was holding at the time and it would have been literally like hitting the broad side of a barn.  What I am saying is if they were here, they would want to blend in with humans in order to study us.  An alien spy would work the same way that a foreign spy would come to our country and live amongst us.  A Russian spy, for example, might come here, start a family, enroll his kids in school, join the local golf club or town pool, whatever any American would do as part of a typical American life.  All the while, he would be reporting information back to Mother Russia.  The spy may not know what his information is used for, only that he is tasked with collecting it.

Back in Russia, the information that is gathered from this spy and, perhaps, hundreds like him in communities all over America, would be used for all sorts of things ranging from military and economic dominance to the annihilation of our society and the occupation of our land.  Only the Russians know exactly where on that spectrum they are.

Bernie Goetz
Likewise, an alien civilization would want to learn whatever they could about us by living amongst us.  They would not want to stick out by being that weird hermit without a job who hangs out in the park, talking to squirrels, and staring at people all the time.

Rather, they would want to look like us and act like us so they could conduct their surveillance on the Down Low.  In order to do this they would have to look the part.

Russians look pretty much like Americans.  There are different ethnicities there but most of them could be interchangeable with the Melting Pot of nationalities we have in our country.  In fact, if you wanted to conduct espionage on any country, America would be the best place to do it because pretty much any ethnicity could be considered American.  Although, depending on the neighborhood, you would blend in best if you looked European, which Russians do.

America may also be the easiest place to conduct espionage because we have so many freedoms, i.e. speech and assembly.  People tend not to ask questions about people asking questions.

white woman calling the cops on black peopleSo it would be reasonable that aliens would want to go to America and disguise themselves as white people of European descent.  Not to diminish other races - just from an economy perspective, if you had to focus on creating a version of yourself that looked like a typical Earthling in America you would want to make a white guy.

This would also allow them to draw the least amount of attention from the authorities because, not to get political but let's face it, some white people love calling the cops on black people.  Not so much, the other way around.

Aliens Blending In

So if aliens are here, walking around, going to work, driving cars, putting their kids in Little League, attending Moms Night Out at the Olive Garden, how would you know them from any other typical American?  The obvious signs may not be the right signs.  It would be obvious to say, "That family down the street looks like us but they have a funny accent and a weird way of emphasizing the wrong syllables."  That does not make someone an alien.  They are probably just from Denmark or Sweden.

Your IT Tech Support Help Desk GuyWhat about that guy in your office who seems to clam up whenever the other guys start talking about sports?  He knows nothing about the movies you've seen.  He does not seem to know the first thing about American culture.  He dresses like he is auditioning for the remake of Revenge of the Nerds.  That guy must be an alien, right?

Probably not.  If someone was trying to blend in and learn as much about our society as possible, he would make it a point to keep up with sports, movies, and music because people from other countries think all Americans are just like people in American movies.  They think we all live in mansions, drive Ferraris, and date models, because they watch every American movie and TV show that makes it overseas.  Baywatch was the #1 show in the world for years.  No, really!

Foreigners, especially Europeans, can also tell you more about American Football (NFL) than you can tell them about European Football (Soccer).  That is the sad truth.  So no, that guy in your office is not an alien.  He is your IT Tech Support Help Desk Guy, dummy.  Go over and talk to him.  He is bored and lonely.  And he knows more about everything than you do - like literally everything, except maybe sports and the kind of movies you like.

Bottom line is you probably would not be able to pick out the alien down the block because they are smarter than that.  They would not just plop down a family in your neighborhood, like the Coneheads.

Coneheads
And they would not travel hundreds of light years to get here, only to try to occupy us in one day.  They would spend years, maybe generations, studying us and figuring out how to blend in.  They would raise children who looked like us, who studied our accents and mannerisms and culture, who would then come and raise children here who essentially grow up American.  They would not stick out in any way.  That may, in essence, be what makes them stand out - that they are so ordinary that they are missing that je ne sais quoi which makes each of us unique.

Paranormal researcher Shane Sirois says he has been visited by human-looking aliens who were so perfect that they looked like someone's attempt at making the perfect human.  I am not going down the supernatural rabbit hole that many in the UFO Community subscribe to.  This is my best attempt at a Science-based blog.  But what Shane says about his encounter makes a lot of sense.  Building off that, Alien spies may be identified as people who are essentially flawless, though not necessarily perfect.

How do you spot an alien? - Part 2

Yesterday my wife watched over my shoulder as I typed.  It always makes me nervous when someone does that.  I feel like they're going to say something about what I've written or what I'm about to write.  As I typed on the main screen she read through my notes on the second screen.  I had written:

  • insects
  • people
  • invisible
  • greys
  • tiny
  • guy at meeting
  • not fitting in
  • probably would need to grow up here
  • mate with us

Alien Human Hybrids

My wife, who knows far more about biology than I do, said it would be impossible for aliens to mate with us.  Would it?  She said our DNA would not be compatible.  We are so close to apes and other mammals, in terms of matching DNA, but we are unable to reproduce with those animals, she said.  I countered that any civilization which possessed the technology to get from there to here surely would have the technology to play with DNA the same way that a programmer can play with software code.  She nodded and said, "Don't call me Surely."

I also mentioned how there are so many stories of alien abductions where women return home pregnant and then later on the baby is taken from them.  Could there be something to that?  I reminded here that our good friend's mom had a story about someone who was a victim of that.  This is a woman who is highly credible.  My wife let it go.

She then mused, why can't they just show themselves already and tell us, "Here's where we're from and here's how everything works and by the way, you guys are %$#@-ing idiots."  I know, right?

Why they do not show themselves already will be the subject of a future blog post.  Meanwhile, there is a distinct possibility that they are already here and they are somehow blending in.  I am not saying it is definitely happening.  I have no proof.  I know for sure we have been visited because I have seen a ship from out of this world, up close, with my own eyes.  But I did not see anyone get out of it.  Right now it is just an idea.  Logically if they can get here and for the most part evade detection then it is possible for them to get out of the ship and explore the surface of the planet while evading detection.

Alien Insects

Ideally, they would want to take on the human form.  I will touch on that a bit tomorrow.  Let us assume for now that shape-shifting or altering DNA would be too difficult or too dangerous because they would not be able to blend in with us.  What other forms might an alien species take, to walk amongst us?  If their natural form was something that could blend in on our planet they would not need to do much.

I have always imagined that whatever insect built these little houses, below, must be some alien species.  There is a little guy down in that hole.

Alien Insects

I had never seen anything like it before or since.

Alien Insects

There were a bunch of them in a pond and each house was constructed in a similar way from similar materials.  You can see one of them crawling out of the house on the left in the next pic.

Alien Insects

What insect builds houses like these, made to look like a larger, scarier insect?

Alien Insects

It is probably not alien insects but rather a species that is native to our planet.  Perhaps I am the first to discover it?  Probably not.  Either way, it instigates thought.  Could an alien species which looks like a bug come here and observe us, perhaps even colonize the planet, simply by blending in with our native insects?

How do you spot an alien? - Part 1

They're he-e-re.  Maybe.  Possibly?  The premise that aliens have visited us is a given.  I have seen one of their ships up close.  What I have not seen with my own eyes is an actual alien - as far as I know.

The ship I saw could have been a drone.  Although, given that our drones are somewhat smaller than
our manned aircraft, the race that sent the ship here would be enormous since the ship was more than an acre in mass.  It also had three bright rectangular lights up front which I've always inferred to be headlights or windshields.  A drone would not need either.  It would not need any lights at all.  Assuming the ship was manned, the occupants might be about our size, maybe a little bigger.  The ship was really huge.

How to Spot an Alien

Drone
Have aliens ever gotten out of their spacecraft and explored our planet?  Have they walked amongst us?  Do they interact with us in some way?

I wanted to explore this subject in today's post so I started doing some research.  Who else is talking about this?  Maybe I need to change up my search terms because looking up, "how to spot an alien" brings up three result pages about a children's play.  It has gotten high reviews by the critics but that is neither here nor there, as far as this discussion goes.

Page three finally brings up a science article on the subject but it is focused on looking for microscopic bacteria.  The article appears to have been written in response to the discovery of possible life on Mars, in the past.  It still ignores the bigger picture.  Why are we searching for microbes when there are people flying spaceships here?

Page four on Google goes sideways towards the absurd, talking about Reptilians running our government.  Maybe there is something to that?  I do not know because I have not looked into it.  It smells like a conspiracy theory, which I abhor.  But I will take a look at it and see if it has any merit and then write about my findings in a future blog post.

Finally, page five links to a Quora article on spotting aliens which poses the question seriously, trying to kindle some debate on the subject.  It does not look like anyone responded, though.

Is science ignoring this?  Apparently.

Sometimes science ignores subjects for a good reason.  Like for example when people claim to have lived past lives or to be possessed by demons.  Are either of these possible?  I suppose.  Can we test for them in a scientific manner and then replicate the tests?  Not with current technology, as far as I can tell.

Sometimes science ignores subjects for bad reasons.  Just ask Galileo.

Aliens: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)So let's start the discussion.  Right here.  Have aliens gotten out of the ship and walked our planet?  Do they look like aliens or have they figured out how to blend in with us?  Is it possible to identify them?  Who else is talking about this?

How do you spot an alien?

I will write more about this in tomorrow's post.  In the meantime, I'd like to see some ideas from my readers, either here on on the David Marceau Facebook Page.

The Chamber

Yesterday's post on how aliens get here was the most popular yet.  The blog got over 100 views yesterday which is one tenth of the total number of views.  It looks like I should cover more science.  My second highest hit count came in for the UFO Psychology post.  Science and psychology.  More?  Comment below or on the David Marceau Facebook page.

UFO Radio Show

I got a call yesterday from the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.  They wanted to know if I was a real person.  😄  Without getting into a whole Discourse on the Method, yes, I'm a real person.  I own a staffing agency in Plattsburgh, NY and Ridgefield, CT and I teach some college classes in New Rochelle.  I'm involved with my family.  I get up early and write every day.  I hate my cable company.  I had a close encounter with an alien spaceship in 1992.  I like coffee.  You know, all normal everyday stuff.

The Chamber was calling because I sent out a lot of emails to their members last week, seeking sponsors for the UFO radio show.  It is penciled in to start in a week and I still do not have a major sponsor for the show.  I am hoping to not have to pay out of pocket for the broadcast expenses.  If I can break even then that is a win.

There was at least one business that was interested, apparently.  That is why the Chamber called.  I am not going to be too picky about who it is, at this early stage of the game.  I will even read personal messages.  At $35 a pop it's feasible that I will get some of those.

We are being visited

I reached out to most of my potential interviewees yesterday to start booking guests.  I am a little nervous about that too.  A lot of people will say, "Yeah, I saw something," in casual conversation but then to go into a radio studio and talk about it on the air is a whole other thing.  A lot of people have an aunt who tells the whole family about her experience.  I want to speak with her too.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that people will want to talk about their experiences.

Not everyone who has seen something had an experience like mine.  It seems like more often it is some strange lights in the sky that do not move like airplanes do.  That is OK.  I want to speak with anyone who has seen anything that did not look right and might possibly be an alien encounter.  I know what it is like to have people be skeptical of your story and my story is indisputable so I am going to take everyone with a story seriously.  It is not my job to debunk anything.  I will leave that to others.  I just want to get the word out to everyone that indeed we are being visited.

If you have seen an alien spaceship or any type of unidentified flying object (UFO) contact me using the Contact form on this page or call me at 401-315-9102 between 6:00am and 7:00am Eastern USA (New York) time, any weekday.

Well, how did they get here?

The biggest mystery behind aliens visiting us is not in grappling with the concept of whether or not there is intelligent life out there.  Statistically there must be.  There are too many stars with too many planets for there not to be life elsewhere.  Plus, the universe is too old for there not to be intelligent life which evolved millions of years before humans did.  They are out there and it is a given.  Oh yeah, and I have seen it firsthand. #ISOT

How did they get here
The bigger mystery is how did they get here from there, wherever there is.  There are some ideas out there in the UFO Community like the Multiverse concept, where the universe is comprised of multiple dimensions which are like soap bubbles which can blend together sometimes.  OK, and the sun is carried across the sky in a chariot every day.  I will pray to Zeus to find me a better theory.

I think my seven year old son has a better idea.  He says, "Maybe there could be some kind of Black Matter [sic] and there’s like a force, like wind, but it’s like 3000 times stronger.  You never know what’s in Black Matter.  The force could be in the Black Matter."  I like where his head is at.

I have my own idea.  But first I want to dismiss a few others, starting with our own current technology.

In the 1970s NASA launched the Voyager probes to see what is out there.  Forty years later they have only reached the edge of our solar system.  It will take another 40,000 years to even come remotely close to another solar system.  It is possible that other life forms have sent out similar probes many millennia ago and they are just now reaching Earth.  However, if that were true then there would be some permanent evidence of their existence.  In other words, they would be floating around our planet and we would have good pictures of them.  Perhaps one would even be in a museum.  Instead, we have only stories of aircraft which can travel at extremely high velocity and evade our fighter jets.

Building a Better Rocket

Of course, our probes were not designed to carry humans.  For that we would need larger vessels with greater propulsion systems - rockets.  With current technology it would take as many as 81,000 years to travel to the next solar system in our galaxy.  There are designs for nuclear rockets which could cut that time down to 1000 years but that is still too long.  We need the ability to get from here to there instantaneously, although I would accept a method which would cut it down to a few years.  At least then we could know the results in our own lifetimes rather than hoping our descendants can benefit from it thousands of years in the future.

There are many theories on how we can cut that time down but most seem to rely on building a better rocket - building something which takes less fuel to travel at a greater velocity. While we are at it, it would be nice if it did not create excessive levels of radiation.  Oh, and it has to cost less than a few trillion dollars.  That is not going to cut it.  The folks at the Tau Zero Foundation seem to have assembled a crew of brilliant minds who are attempting to solve these problems but improving propulsion is not the answer.  In order to reach other star systems we need to think beyond propulsion systems and consider using laws of physics in new ways.

One theory which has gained traction, and which I believe is getting us closer to where we should be is the Warp Drive.  No longer the subject of pure science fiction, it may be possible to build one.  It is not a drive per se but more of a manipulator.  A scientist named Miguel Alcubierre has proposed a system which would manipulate the fabric of space and time to propel a spaceship to the nearest star in four years.  Now we're talking.  The problem is, it violates many currently held theories on how pretty much everything in the universe works.  It is also too complex - stretching and contracting space-time.  There has to be a more simple method.

Some people, with a much greater understanding of physics than me, are doing great work with Loop Quantum Gravity.  This subject is not for the faint of heart or mind so do not click that last link unless you are really into physics.  Suffice to say, if these folks and others in the scientific community can increase their understanding of gravity then we may have the key.

When it comes to gravity I think we have been trying to solve the wrong problem.  Throughout human history man has tried to figure out ways to defy gravity.  How can we be more like birds?  How can we float like a balloon?  Whoever built the spaceship I saw has already figured that out - forget about how it got here, for a moment.  They figured out how to get the ship to hover, just over the treeline without any type of propellers, and to glide gracefully at a slow speed without any visible or audible propulsion.

Attract Gravity

How did it hover?

Somehow the ship I saw was able to defy gravity.  But in order to do that, its designers must have a thorough understanding, not of flight, but of how gravity works.  If so, then perhaps that is how they were able to get from there to here.  Maybe they have been able to harness gravity in a way that allows them to lock on to a source of gravity, like a star, and increase their attraction to it.  This could allow them to instantaneously be pulled towards an object with a strong gravitational pull which would allow them to zip away in a streak of light.  This same ability would allow them to hover, here on Earth, because they would not be defying Earth's gravity, they would be attracting some other object's gravity.

Attract GravitySo the question then is not, how do we defy gravity, but rather how do we attract gravity?

If science can answer that question, we are on our way to creating an aircraft which can quickly zip around the universe and then hover in one spot once we reach our destination.

I hereby challenge the scientific community to figure out how to attract gravity.  Do this before my seven year old proves his Black Matter Theory and there is a reward.  I pledge one dollar to the winner of this Marceau Contest.  Please note that if both theories are proven, whoever is first gets the dollar.  Second place gets an Archway Molasses Cookie.  Personally I would prefer the cookie but my son is not big into sweets and I would like to see my boy win.

Free Dinner

It's Friday.  Just a few quick updates on the show today.  First I wanted to thank Scott Henkle for advising me on how to get my UFO Podcast show in the air.  Scott put up a post on a social media site we both use, mentioning that he works for Westwood One.  I thought he would be a good person to reach out to for some advice, even though he's about half my age, he could still be a good resource for information.

I noticed Scott and I were connected to some of the same people so under that context I reached out to him and introduced myself.  Scott was receptive to my message and we chatted about building my brand.  He suggested I start out by trying to buy some air time on a local radio station, which he called brokered programming.  I had never heard the term, though I was familiar with the concept.  I don't know if that was what planted the seed for me to go to WVOX and check out the station but I'm sure it was in the back of my mind when I whipped into their parking lot a couple weeks ago.  So thank you Scott.

Plattsburgh State Homecoming

I left things off with Scott saying that I owed him a beer at Homecoming.  I was hoping I would run into him somewhere but we never made plans to meet up.  Then, really weird coincidence, I decided this would be the year that I would attend some on-campus functions.  I do not know how many Homecomings I have been to but if you count my undergrad years it has to be 10-15.  Every time, I have always gone to my fraternity house and hung out with brothers from my era, while getting to know some of the newer members.  The undergrads always show us old guys a great time and it's a thrill to be back in a frat house for a few hours, like it was still 1995.

This year I actually read the email about the on-campus events for the first time and decided I would check some of them out.  Maybe it is a sign of age but some of the events actually sounded like fun.  One of them was a dinner sponsored by a group I had been a member of for a year, before pledging the fraternity and getting involved in that.  I thought, "free dinner."  What could be bad about that?  Even though I do not get out much I am a very social person and enjoy meeting people.  This sounded like it could be a good time.

I left the fraternity house and drove over to the school.  I had an eerie feeling walking through the building everyone uses as a shortcut to get to the College Center building.  It has been decades since I was in there.  Memories rushed back to me, like I had just been there days before.

I arrived at the room where the dinner was and I recognized it as the room where I went to my first Rush meeting for my fraternity.  I can still picture some of the guys, like the fraternity president, and remember some of the conversations I had with them.  I introduced myself to the women who were standing by the door and made my way into the room.  I then introduced myself to only guy in the room and he said he knew me.  I leaned back, took a hard look at him, and realized it was none other than Scott Henkle.  Wow!  Weird.

I took a seat next to Scott and we talked for most of the dinner.  He is a good guy and has a lot of knowledge about radio broadcasting.  I told him about the old radio station that was at the school, the one I worked at, and some of its history.  He gave me some updated history on the new station and told me it was right downstairs.  He offered to bring me down and give me a tour and I said it sounded like fun.

WPLT / WQKE

We went downstairs and there were a couple guys in there, doing a broadcast.  They invited us in and we sat in on their show for about ten minutes.  Good guys and good times.  The rest of the station tour was anti-climactic.  It's much smaller now than when I was there.  Although they do have a cooler lounge than we did.

The other quick update is, I was on my way in to New Rochelle yesterday, to the college I teach at, and I pulled up behind my brother in-law.  It reminded me that I wanted to reach out to him to see if he would do a sketch of the spaceship I saw so I can put it on some merch on my website.  I sent him a text later on and we spoke on my way home.  He said he would give it a shot.  He is a great artist and this kind of thing is right up his alley so I am sure he will come up with something really cool.

Back to Work

Meanwhile, things are moving along with the podcast and all things associated with it.  I'm nearing 800 page views on the blog which is incredible, for being up less than a month.  Thank you for reading and please continue to Tweet and share the link.  I could use some followers too so if you've enjoyed the blog so far please click Follow to be notified of the latest posts before they hit social media.

Sunday there was progress with the David Marceau Facebook Page which I have not had a chance to crow about until now.  Facebook has a thing where they do not let you name a page and give it a readable URL until you have at least 25 Likes.  We exceeded that number some time over the weekend so I gave the page a name.  It is DavidMarceauOfficialPage or https://www.facebook.com/DavidMarceauOfficialPage.  If you have not already done so, please Like it.

Music Licensing

I keep going back and forth with this music licensing guy about the theme song for the podcast.  I thought I was done with him.  If you have ever haggled with a shop keeper in a third world country you will get what I am going through.  You know you never get the real price for something until you start walking out of the store.  Then there is a hand on your shoulder and it is, "For you, my fr-r-riend, special pr-r-rice!"  Now he tells me that the price he quoted me, which came down from $10,000 a year to $3500, is just for the Composition Rights which is the "lyrics and melody."  Then I need to get the Sound Recording Rights which is "a recorded embodiment of the lyrics and melody."

WHAT???

I thought that was what I was getting.  What is next?  Do I need to also pay for the Listening Rights, which is an "audible reception of the product?"  How about the Pleasure Rights or "the right to take pleasure in said audible reception, sucker."

I just want to play 15 seconds of a song by a band most people have never heard of and those who have have forgotten about because they never had a hit and have not released anything in decades because the front man died before they got big.

Eddie Murphy Staring at the Camera
I hate run-on sentences; sometimes you do what you gotta do.

So then after all that he tells me I will have to negotiate with some other guy (who knows who that is and how I get a hold of him) for the Sound Recording rights and that regardless of whatever price that guy holds me to whoever gets the best deal out of me, the other guy gets the same deal.  So if Composition Guy gives me the Composition rights for $3500 but the other random Sound Recording Guy gives me the Sound Recording rights for $5000 then I have to pay both of them $5000 each and now I'm back up to $10k.

Composition Guy says, "Once you have an idea of what you’re able and willing to spend, let me know and I’ll see if I can make it work on my end with our client."  What am I, buying a used Chevy?  To hell with that.  I think this guy is scamming me.  If any of my readers have any insight into this music licensing business please email me through the Contact form.

A good friend texted me last night saying he is a loyal reader of the blog and is enjoying it.  Thanks bud.  Shout out to you!  He suggested I put up a simple webpage.  Yeah, I know.  I have davidmarceau.com and need to link it to something.  I have been waiting to see where I am ultimately going to host the podcast and whether or not they offer a website or I'd have to use my own.  I think these are the final pieces I need to put together for the podcast.

On the radio front, I think I'm locked in to a station and a time slot.  I will likely be doing Tuesday Evening Drive at 6pm on 1460AM WVOX.  It is a tiny 500 watt station but it reaches most of Westchester, a good deal of northern NYC, and parts of Jersey, CT, and Long Island.  That is all I need for now.  I can say, in all honesty, that I am broadcasting to NYC and the surrounding area on the live broadcast.  I like that.

But the real prize for me is not even the initial broadcast it is the studio and the production.  I will have a place to sit down with guests outside of my home where there are real microphones and recording equipment.  We can take callers.  And there is an engineer who will man the board and handle all of the production.  All I have to do is book my guests and sell advertising and then do the broadcast.  At the end, they hand me an mp3 file for me to upload to my podcast site.

Speaking of booking and selling, I reached out to my alma mater, SUNY Plattsburgh, to let the Communications Department Chair know about my radio show.  I wanted to see if they could put a couple interns on the booking and advertising roles.  I may get interns to help out from the college because I thought it would be good experience for someone who is going into radio to say they worked on a show handling bookings or advertising.  Someone should get course credit for that.  But that would not start until January at the earliest.  So, if you are reading this and you are interested in volunteering some time on the show, please email me via the Contact form.

That's it for updates.  I will continue to make every effort to blog each weekday so keep and eye out for new posts every day during the week and do click that Follow link for instant notification.

What happened to Guard 2?

Yesterday I posted some details of my meeting with the other witness to my sighting.

Mike and I speculated on why the guard at Pad 2, between us, claimed he did not see what either Mike or I saw.  Mike saw the bright light emanating from the quarter panel of the ship.  I saw a full-on spaceship.  There's no mistaking it.  Mike thought Guard 2 might have fallen asleep.  I'm not so sure about that.

Sleeping on Guard Duty

Even if you take into account that he might have sat down and nodded off for a second, the benches that were provided for us had no backs.  He would have had to lay down on the ground which was cold hard-packed dirt, in order to get some real z's.

I've always thought that sleeping on guard duty was about the worst thing you could do in the military, short of maybe fragging a commander on the battlefield or deserting.  I'm reading now on Reddit and other message boards that maybe it's more prevalent than I thought.  A lot of people joke about it and the punishments for it may not be that severe, depending on whether or not any harm was caused.

My perception on this may be tainted by the fact that I received an Article 15 for sleeping in Basic Training on a day when I spent most of my time standing up in the back of a classroom in order to stay awake.  I even got down and did push-ups several times to stay awake.  It was a stiff punishment for something I do not think I did and which I definitely tried my hardest not to do.  I was certain I never fell asleep during training that day but one of my drill sergeants said I closed my eyes for a few seconds and he wrote me up for it and put me on restriction.  Since then I have been hyper-vigilant about staying awake when I am supposed to.  But maybe not everyone cares about this as much as I do because they did not have that experience.

That notwithstanding, my argument against the possibility that Guard 2 fell asleep is that, for one thing, the benches that were provided for us were what I call a Contractor's Bench.  I do not know if Guard 2 even had a bench but if he did, a Contractor's Bench is something you slap together with scrap wood.  It may not be balanced so if you do not sit on it the right way it will rock and may even fall over.  It has no back so if you were to fall asleep while sitting on it you would fall off.

Now I have a lot of experience with sleeping in odd places and situations.  I used to sleep on the subway on my way to work.  I have the ability to sleep while sitting without falling over or snapping my neck.  But that's on a seat with a back to lean against and other people's shoulders wedging you in place, not by yourself on a rickety bench.

I also have the experience of having fallen asleep while standing several times in Basic Training.  I fell asleep in the chow line once and dropped my ID card.  Someone in the line picked it up and pocketed it while I was out and I had to get a new card.  I once fell asleep while standing at parade rest during a military parade.  The guy to my right started pushing on me and said, "C'mon Marceau, let's go!"
I looked to my left and the rest of my platoon was marching away.  I caught up and then turned my head to the guy who was now behind me and said, "It's over already?"
He replied, "What are you talking about?  We've been here for two hours."
It seemed like five minutes to me because I was sound asleep the entire time.  Maybe it was not two full hours but it was definitely much longer than five minutes.

So OK.  It is possible to fall asleep on a rickety bench.  But the circumstances behind me sleeping while standing were that I was in Basic Training, getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night, burning thousands of calories per day.  There were good reasons for me to fall asleep while standing.  I have never been able to do that since then, no matter how tired I've been.  Our Annual Training was nothing like Basic Training.  It was more like camping.  It was not that bad.  I cannot see the work we did causing anyone to be unable to keep their eyes open on a short guard duty - and we were only a few minutes into the shift.

A more likely scenario than sleeping while sitting was that maybe Guard 2 purposely laid down on the ground and took a nap.  But the ground was uneven hard-packed dirt.  The cold and the rocks would have been uncomfortable to lay on.  It would also have been a much greater risk, to lay down.  If a senior NCO or Officer came rolling down the road or snuck up on you, you would get a severe reprimand.  It is one thing to be sitting and then nod off.  You could always say you were looking at something on the ground, or something, and maybe even pop up on your feet before anyone noticed you had your head down.  But if you are on the ground it would be harder to cover up what you were doing there, "Oh hey, Sarge.  I was just, uh... checking the treetops for thieves... on my back... with my eyes closed..."

All of that notwithstanding, the bigger issue is that we were warned to be on the lookout for civilians who might sneak on post and try to steal ammo.  Our driver told us that it had in fact happened the last time our unit did Annual Training at that location.  I would not learn the details on this until later on, that my dad was on duty when that happened.  But that is a story for another post.  At any rate, we were on high alert because of the distinct possibility that we would be robbed.  For me, that alone was enough to keep me awake and alert.

With all of that put together, how could Guard 2 NOT have seen what Mike and I saw?  Based on Mike's account of how long he saw the light I estimate there was about a fifteen minute period where the ship was either directly over Pad 2 or between Pads 2 and 3 (my location).  It would have been right over Guard 2, or very nearby, for up to fifteen minutes before gliding over my way.  How do you not see that?

By the way, it was huge.  It was larger than the one acre clearing I sat in.  And it glided slowly right over the treeline.  If you were anywhere near it, it was clearly visible.

How did Guard 2 not see it?  What happened?

What happened?

Alien Contact

I think they got him.

Maybe he pointed his weapon at the ship and was viewed as a threat.  Or maybe he was spotted watching the ship by the creatures who were flying it and they wanted to make sure he did not report them.  Or maybe they were just curious about him.  But something happened which caused the occupants of the ship to either freeze Guard 2 or maybe they even brought him aboard.  I can only speculate.  Whatever it was, at the end they somehow erased his memory of the incident.

I know it's a stretch.  With our current technology and understanding of medicine it is not possible for humans to do something like that to other humans.  But it is also not possible for us to silently hover right over a tree line and then zip into space in a streak of light.  So we're dealing with a civilization which is thousands, possibly millions of years ahead of us.  It is plausible that if they possess the technology to create a spaceship with those capabilities they also possess the technology and understanding of biology to freeze people and erase parts of their memory.

We will likely never know for sure because neither Mike nor I can remember who Guard 2 was and I doubt anyone in our reserve unit kept records of who did what that night.  It was twenty-six years ago.

Working purely with logic, however, given the fact that intentionally sleeping on the cold dirt during guard duty (when we knew that civilians had raided the ammo in the past) or accidentally nodding off on a rickety bench on what was essentially a camping trip, is so highly unlikely, you have to allow for other options.  What other option could there be than that the spaceship, which the two guys on either side of Guard 2 saw, did something to him?

I'd love to hear thoughts on this, or other suggestions from my readers.  Post your thoughts below in the Comments or on the David Marceau Facebook Page.
